Parents, we kicked off our annual (JBS/Eden also participate) magazine sale. I have attached directions for online purchases as well. All money raised from this event will go directly back to your child’s classroom through purchases we will be making for our intervention/enrichment groups. Check this form for more information.
The Maxwell Intermediate School PTO needs nominations for officers for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year. Currently, three of our four officers are 6th grade parents so help is needed to fill their positions. If you are interested or know a parent who be great for the job, please print this PTO Officer Nomination Form and return it to the MIS office by March 5.
The applied skills portion of the state mandated ISTEP assessment for grades 4, 5, and 6 will be held from Monday, March 5th through Wednesday, March 14th. The multiple choice portion of the ISTEP testing will be given Monday, April 30th through Wednesday, May 9th.
MIS is participating in “Pennies for Patients” during the week of Feb. 13. This initiative will help patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. The MIS Student Council will be in charge of collecting the donations — if MIS raises over $500, the class with the greatest donations will receive a pizza party from Dominoe’s Pizza. The Student Council appreciates your support towards this worthwhile project — all donations are welcome.
On Monday, February 27 Christy Harpold, school social worker at J.B. Stephens Elementary, and Scott Stroud, school social worker at Maxwell Intermediate School will be offering the Strengthening Families Program. This course is a parent/family based program that promotes parenting skills, children’s life skills, and family skills. The goal of this course is to strengthen the family bond and build upon these strengths that each parent and child alread possess. Christy and Scott received training for this research based program through a grant from Neighborhoods Against Substance Abuse (NASA).
This is a reminder that on President’s Day (Feb. 20, students will not have school. The YMCA will be hosting a President’s Day camp for students who need something to stay busy on their day off. Check out this flyer for more information and contact the YMCA if you have any questions.
This year’s second Family Math Night will be this Thursday, Feb. 16 from 6:30 – 7:30 pm. The chili supper was originally planned has been canceled due to a lack of response. *Any money that was sent in early will be reimbursed. We are looking forward to sharing information that focuses on how you can help your child at home with his/her mathematics education.
